ABOUT THE ARTWORK
It was late December 1999 when Invader decided to head to Los Angeles with one mission: to carry out his ninth invasion, the first outside of Europe!
His cousin, Mr. Brainwash, was waiting for him in Los Angeles to help install some Space Invaders in L.A., and he would soon become so fascinated by the world of street art that he followed in the footsteps of famous street artists like Shepard Fairey (Obey) and became one of the protagonists of the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, directed by Banksy.
In his suitcase, Invader carried over 40 pre-made mosaics, and on December 26, 1999, LA_001 appeared on the side wall of the historic Pink’s Hot Dogs restaurant.
This map is the 12th invasion map published and marks the location of 93 Space Invader mosaics scattered across Los Angeles. Printed in 2004 in an edition of 1000 copies, it remains one of the most sought-after invasion maps.
